Spirit Classic Thermal Transparent Stencils
Spirit Classic Thermal Transparent Stencils is a box of 25 transparent thermal stencil sheets made by Spirit and developed in collaboration with tattoo artist Brandon Henderson of Clear Cut Stencils. Instead of a regular paper top sheet, each stencil has a transparent top sheet, so the artist can see the skin, the body contours and any existing tattoo through the stencil while lining up the design. That way the placement can be checked and corrected before the stencil touches the skin, which makes these sheets a precise tool for cover ups, gap fillers, fill work between existing pieces and new designs that have to fit around older tattoos.
Each of the 25 sheets works like any thermal stencil paper: the heat of the thermal printer or thermal copier transfers the purple dye onto the sheet in the shape of the design, and the stencil transfer solution on the skin picks up that dye when the sheet is pressed. They are compatible with all thermal printers, and the high visibility purple transfer dye leaves clean, consistent and easy to read lines on the skin. The sheets are made in the USA with skin safe and vegan friendly materials, they are shelf stable and the design is patent pending. Spirit has made stencil paper in the USA since 1948, and this transparent version complements Spirit Classic Thermal Paper, which keeps a regular paper top sheet and comes in 8 1/2" x 11" and 8 1/2" x 14" sizes for everyday stencils. Both use the same purple transfer, so the artist can keep the classic paper for standard work and use the transparent sheets for the jobs where exact placement over the skin matters most.
When to use it?
Use it during the stencil and placement stage of body tattooing, after the design is finished and before the first line is tattooed. First, take one sheet from the box of 25 and create the stencil by printing the design with a thermal printer or thermal copier. Then clean and prepare the skin and apply a thin layer of stencil transfer solution to the area. Hold the stencil over the skin and look through the transparent top sheet to line up the design with the body contours, the open spaces or the old tattoo that needs to be covered. Once it is in the right position, press it onto the skin for a few seconds without moving it, peel it off carefully to avoid smudged or blurry purple lines, and let the stencil set before starting the tattoo.
