Skin Prep & Antiseptics

Skin prep antiseptics for piercings handle pre-procedure cleansing and surface bacteria reduction, keeping body piercing services clean and hygienic.
About Skin Prep & Antiseptics

Piercing skin prep and antiseptics are what a piercer uses to clean the area before the needle goes in. SVT Shop carries Dynarex alcohol and povidone-iodine prep pads, Saferly gentian violet marking solution and CareALL petroleum jelly.

Prep pads, marking solution and petroleum jelly

  • Alcohol prep pads: Dynarex Sterile Alcohol Prep Pads are medium pads with 70% isopropyl alcohol, individually wrapped and listed for skin cleansing before tattoo or piercing procedures.
  • Povidone-iodine pads: Dynarex Povidone Iodine Prep Pads are medium pads with 10% povidone-iodine, individually wrapped. Ask clients about iodine sensitivity first.
  • Marking solution: Saferly Gentian Violet (1/2 oz) is a marking solution that many piercers use to mark placement before piercing.
  • Petroleum jelly: CareALL Petroleum Jelly (13 oz) is listed for tattooing and piercing as a skin barrier that helps with needle glide and moisture retention. Use it the way your studio protocol directs.

Choosing a prep product

Your studio protocol and the client's skin decide the product. Alcohol pads are quick and familiar, and povidone-iodine pads are an alternative when your protocol calls for them and the client has no iodine sensitivity. Whichever you use, let the skin dry before the needle and open a fresh pad for each client. After marking, have the client check the placement in a mirror before you pierce.
